What is Green tea and what are its benefits?

Green tea, originated in China, is a type of tea that is made from Camellia sinensis leaves and buds. To produce green tea, the leaves are steamed, pan fried and then dried. When dried, the leaves and leaf buds are also used to make different types of teas to include the black and oolong teas. Although green tea contains caffeine, it is not fermented allowing it to maintain polyphenols, which provides many health & wellness benefits (reducing inflammation, helping to fight cancer, etc.).

Some of the many benefits:

Brain function: Green tea contains caffeine however not as much as coffee, which allows you to get all the benefits from caffeine without having the jittery effects caused by intaking too much caffeine. While green tea may be used to improve short term brain function, it may also be used to protect your brain as it age.
  1. Fat burning: Green tea may be used to increase the fat burning and metabolic rate boosting. While green tea may be used to boost the metabolic rate it may also assist with weight loss by reducing body fat especially in the abdominal area.
  1. Lower cancer risk: Green tea contains a powerful antioxidants that may be used to help prevent or lower the risk of cancer (breast, prostate, heart, colorectal).
